All sessions run by the club are voluntarily carried out by Boccia England trained coaches and other volunteers. The club’s mission is to provide professional training to local people with physical and/or learning disabilities and enable them to access the sport.
By engaging with the club, members have the opportunity to stay active and also socialise, which positively impacts on their daily lives.
Last year the founder of the club Gemma Mitchell, who has cerebral palsy, won BBC South’s Unsung Hero Award for her inspiring story of setting up and running the volunteer led group.
Our grant helped purchase new equipment such as specialist ramps for members with severe disabilities. The funding also contributed towards the cost of volunteer training, equipping volunteers with the right skills to further strengthen the best quality experience for everyone.
