Townsend is one of the disadvantaged areas in Bournemouth. The supported Community Fridge project uses volunteers to deliver food parcels and to cook and deliver hot meals to older people who are self-isolating and families in hardship during the Coronavirus crisis. The project also provides craft packs to children from low income families, who usually attend youth activities.
Caroline Green, who is one of the volunteers explained:’ After a quick application turnaround The Townsend Community Association are now able to expand the work of the Townsend Community Fridge project to support local residents. Volunteers are producing & delivering food parcels to residents’ doorsteps, cooking hot meals and providing ‘activity packs’ for children. Volunteers are able to expand the work of the Community Fridge project by using the facilities at Townsend Community Centre’.
