The Lord-Lieutenant’s Fund for Young and Talented was formed in partnership with HM Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, Mr Angus Campbell, is to ensure that every young person has the same opportunities to develop their sporting talent regardless of background, financial or personal circumstances. The chief aim is to ‘level the playing field’ within the diverse array of young sporting talent in Dorset.
First launching in 2015, the fund continues to support young people each year. Notably, Jacob Peters was supported by the fund, which helped him on his path that led him all the way to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Poole-born swimmer, who specialises in the butterfly, was selected as one of a 28-strong Team GB swimming squad. Jacob was supported by DCF thoufh three grants totalling almost £1,500 since 2017.
Dorset residents, between 14-21, can apply from a wide variety of sports, if they have been formally recognised by their National Governing Body. The grants of up provide up to £1,000 of fudning, which typically assists in the pruchase of kit/clothing costs, competition fees, coaching, travel costs, accommodation, etc. The fund is actively fundraised through DCF.
